Bokora Karimojong warriors on Tuesday killed 14 herdsmen and raided over 700 head of cattle from Jie county in Kotido district.

Moroto resident district commissioner John Abingwa said the cattle were driven towards Obalanga sub-county, Katakwi district where the majority of the Bokora crossed early last month in search of pasture.

Abingwa said the raid occurred two days after ethnic Pian Karimojong from Nakapiripirit killed 30 teenage pastoralists and raided over 600 head of cattle from the Bokora grazing areas at Alekilek, Irriri sub-county. The deceased had been left to graze the cattle.

The Pian had themselves suffered a cattle raid in which 10 people were killed and over 800 head of cattle taken by the Pokot.

A total of 62 people including LDUs were later killed in an un-successful mission to recover the cattle in Kariita sub-county, Pokot county.

Katakwi RDC Chemaswet Ndiwa said the incursion of the Bokora Karimojong has caused panic in the district.
