A landlord has asked court to attach the property of the Deputy Director of Economic Affairs, Internal Security Organisation, Teddy Seezi Cheeye, for alleged failure to pay rent amounting to US$12,000 (sh22,5m).

Edward Kaddu Mukasa, through his lawyers, Kiwanuka and Karugire Advocates, on Thursday filed an application at the Nakawa Magistrate’s Court seeking an order to auction Cheeye’s property to recover the money.

Mukasa alleged that Cheeye rented his house on plot 52A, Ntinda, a Kampala suburb, at US$1,500 (over sh2.5m) per month from April last year. He said Cheeye defaulted rent payment for eight months.

The landlord claimed that Cheeye had agreed to pay rent annually for five years and had paid $6,000, leaving a balance of $12,000.

The applicant also wants Cheeye, who is still occupying the premises, to pay the lawyers fee, the court bailiffs and the cost of the suit.

On January 14, a notice of eviction was reportedly given to Cheeye but he ignored it and continued to occupy the house.
