EURO Africa and All Africa Games champion Abdul Tebazalwa (right) has set all his attention to securing a place on the national boxing team that will make it to the Olympics due in Athens, Greece in 2004.

Tebazalwa, who returned to the country last month, said that he might have missed out of the National Open but is ready to prove himself in the upcoming tournaments so that he is considered for the Bombers squad.

“I missed the National Open but there is still chance making it to the national team. There are many tournaments lined up and am sure I can make it,” he said.

His main target is to win the second All Africa Games boxing gold medal so that he qualifies for the Olympics. The two finalists qualify.

He has already started work outs at Kampala Boxing Club (KBC) despite the delayed arrival of his equipment.

The former Scorpion boxer left Uganda in November 2001 for the Copenhagen Boxing tournament in Denmark where he won a silver medal. His other counterpart Isaac Ssentamu was eliminated in the quarterfinals.

After the championship, Tebazalwa joined a Swedish amateur club ALBK. He won 12 of his 15 fights with five knockouts and has since upgraded from bantam to light weight.
