FACED with eviction threats from Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), nomads in Hoima were ready to give 100 head of cattle to be allowed to stay.
Their hopes were, however, dashed when Hoima district chairman George Tinkamanyire Bagonza rejected the offer.
Tinkamanyire recently said he had refused an offer of 100 head of cattle by the nomads who had been given up to January 27 to quit Tonya- Kaiso game reserve in Kyangwali sub-county.
“They came to my office seeking protection but I refused their cows and advised them to resolve their problem with UWA,” Tinkamanyire said.
Sources said the cornered nomads had also tried to bribe the district vice-chairman, Stanley Kiiza, with 40 cows which he also turned down.
The Tonya-Kaiso game warden, William Mwesigye, said UWA would proceed with the eviction. Ends
