SHERATON Kampala Hotel has been awarded the ISO 9001:2000 certification by Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI).
ISO stands for International Organisation for Standardisation.
George Ogoti, operations manager and lead assessor for Bureau Veritas Quality International in Uganda said: “Records indicate that the only hotel to achieve any other distinguished standard is in Egypt which achieved an environmental standard based on ISO 14000: 1996.”
Prof. Edward Rugumayo, the tourism, trade and industry minister presented the certificate to Apolo Corporation CEO Vijay Vijeyakumaar on Thursday evening. Rugumayo advised the hotel staff not to slacken.
“I am happy that you have summoned all your efforts to achieve this prestigious award. This is a remarkable achievement and I commend you for the effort. But you should take note that ISO certification is not an end itself but a means. If you relax you will fail to achieve your target,” he said.
Vijeyakumaar said, “I am personally pleased and very proud of the employees and the management team of the hotel and would like to take this opportunity of assuring our customers, in our commitment to providing a high standard of service at all times.”
