The First Lady, Mrs. Janet Museveni, has said that skills of peacefully resolving national and international conflicts cannot be developed unless people first learn how to resolve small problems in their own homes.
“The family is indeed the first building block towards peace in our nation. Let us invest time and effort towards nurturing, establishing and maintaining peace in families. A peaceful family will be the model for peaceful resolution of conflict in the world,” she said.
She was speaking during a peace concert organised by the United Nations Association of Uganda (UNAU) and the Co-existence Centre of Uganda.
The function took place at the International Conference Centre on Saturday. Also present was the UN Special Representative to the Great Lakes Region, Ibrahima Fall.
The concert, under the theme ‘Peacefully dealing with our differences’, was the crowning event of a three-day World Federation of the United Nations Associations (WFUNA) meeting, which attracted delegates from different parts of the world.
It sought to explore different ways of dealing with conflict other than violence like it is in northern Uganda. UNAU also launched an appeal for technical, financial and material support to the suffering people of the north, notably women and children.

Fall pledged the support of the United Nations to the fight against terrorism and armed conflict in Africa.
She said the UN had a goal of handling all issues of human security.
