TWENTY-EIGHT suspects who have been on treason and terrorism charges were yesterday freed from Kigo Prison after being granted amnesty.

TWENTY-EIGHT suspects who have been on treason and terrorism charges were yesterday freed from Kigo Prison after being granted amnesty.

Eleven of them were women, write Hillary Nsambu and Charles Ariko.

The Director of Public Prosecutions Through state attorney David Ndamurani Ateenyi, yesterday tendered to court a letter saying the DPP was no longer interested in the case.


The suspects, formerly rebels of the Allied Democratic Forces, had applied to the Amnesty Commission to be pardoned.

A press release issued by the Commissioner General of Prisons, Joseph Etima, stated that the suspects were set free from Kigo Prison where they have been on remand.

The suspects are Ibrahim Magala, Farouk Sengendo, Amina Nanyonga, Mariam Nalubega, Mariam Namugenyi, Osman Wandera and Mohammad Ali.

Others are Ibrahim Kikivudde, Jennifer Bukiwa, Latiff Nakibule, Muzamir Lule, Muhammad Abujihadd, Jamir Kamanya and Babirye Hawa. Also released are Salama Namakula, Muhammad Katamba alias Kabaya, Fatuma Nabanjja, Abdul Kateregga, Twahiri Muzaale and Rukiya Sanyu. Others are Aisha Wasibadde, Ibrahim Muyimba, Asaad Ssemandi, Muhammad Ddamulira, Abdul Waligo, Rashid Mujuzi, Yusuf Nyanzi and Abdul Swamad Lubega.
They allegedlly committed the offences in various places.
