FUFA can take advantage of the Germany-Uganda soccer cooperation through GTZ, to secure Cranes a training tour of Europe.
National technical soccer director Guenter Zittel is exploring ways of giving Cranes’ Nations Cup build-up a boost before crucial games against Rwanda and Ghana.
The German’s dream could however be just that, because FUFA’s top priority is to have Zittel sacked. The German top coach has over the years been very critical of FUFA’s management, something which has not been gone down well at Nakulabye.
Even the German trip, which Zittel is trying to promote between the DFB and Ugandan sponsors, all depends on whether FUFA agree to talk or deal with him.
Zittel intends to raise details of the proposed tour when he, together with FUFA boss Denis Obua, travel to meet the Germans in a belated Meridian Project progress meeting in April or May.
According to Zittel, the German trip will however only succeed if Uganda provides air tickets.
“It’s possible to have the Cranes in Germany. German through the Meridian project will support the arrangement of having the national team there because it will benefit the Cranes,” he said.
Cameroon had a similar arrangement through the Meridian project that saw them prepare in German before the Olympics and World Cup finals,” said Zittel. Uganda would play against German’s first division clubs.
And Zittel, who earlier boosted the Cranes camp with training kits, hopes to get support from the German embassy in Kampala to support the country’s soccer cause.
The Frankfurt meeting will also help in ironing out the differences and complications encountered by GTZ in running fully sponsored projects in Uganda.
