THE government has injected sh6.5b in upgrading the dusty Gayaza-Kalagi Road.
The funds, secured from the African Development Bank, will be used in transforming the 20km road from murram to first-class bitumen.
Works ministry officials said the former Italian-owned Stirling Federic construction company was contracted to do the job. The project already in progress is expected to last 18 months.
“Until recently, the Kalagi-Gayaza Road has been in a dilapidated state. But motorists and pedestrians who use the road will now be relieved of the billowing dust,†a ministry official said.
President Yoweri Museveni has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to improving the road network countrywide.
Presently, the Pakwach-Nebbi-Arua and Busunju-Kiboga-Hoima roads are among the major projects in which the Government has injected billions of shillings.
