THE government has injected sh6.5b in upgrading the dusty Gayaza-Kalagi Road.

The funds, secured from the African Development Bank, will be used in transforming the 20km road from murram to first-class bitumen.

Works ministry officials said the former Italian-owned Stirling Federic construction company was contracted to do the job. The project already in progress is expected to last 18 months.

“Until recently, the Kalagi-Gayaza Road has been in a dilapidated state. But motorists and pedestrians who use the road will now be relieved of the billowing dust,” a ministry official said.

President Yoweri Museveni has reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to improving the road network countrywide.

Presently, the Pakwach-Nebbi-Arua and Busunju-Kiboga-Hoima roads are among the major projects in which the Government has injected billions of shillings.
