The Safari Sevens are barely two months away, but the national sevens team has a long way to go before it can be declared to play the region’s biggest sevens tournament. It showed when they played in the 2nd leg of the 2003 sevens circuit. Although they won, they struggled against the clubs.
“The boys have not really trained as a team, so it is understandable when the play was not smooth,†Rugby Country Manager Herbert Wafula told The New Vision. “They will definitely get better with more training, but they cannot take it for granted. There are a lot of good sevens players out there, and it will be quiet a contest.â€
Uganda beat Mango Kobs 31-19 in the finals of the Main trophy, while MTN Heathens had to settle for the Plate, beating Buffaloes 47-0.
Boks beat Rhinos 36-5 for the Bowl, while Summer Kampers were awarded a 28-0 win over Sailors after the latter used more than the allocated number of players.
Earlier, Kobs gave the Heathens their first sevens loss of the year, beating the reigning champions 21-12 in the semi-finals of the Main trophy.
