FORMER Cranes star Godfrey Mugisha again looks set to rock United States’ Collegiate soccer league.

Mugisha, the 2002 Virginia Intermont College top scorer, has in the build-up to the new season been voted best player of the Millington Indoor tournament.

The Computer Science student scored nine times in five matches of the pre-season competition that ended recently.

“His fitness level is very high. I believe he is ready to play for his national team again,” the former KCC and SCOUL striker’s coach Dan Balguero told The New Vision.

Mugisha was in top form last season netting 14 on top of a team record of 17 assists. Another Ugandan on the team Robert Ssejjemba had 16 goals.

Mugisha’s comfort can probably be partly explained by his rarely being homesick.

He is privileged to have other Ugandans David Semugabi, Abdul Lauawaba and Ssejjemba on the team which also has former Cranes and SC Villa defender Geoffrey Bukohore as assistant coach.

The collegiate league that starts in August last season had Virginia Intermont college losing in the eastern conference regional final.

Victory at this level will have the college qualifying for the NAIA National Championship featuring USA’s top eight college teams.

Mugisha’s prayer is attracting the attention of Major League (MLS) Soccer scouts. The MLS is the top US soccer competition.

Peter Byaruhanga and Sulaiman Tenywa are the only Ugandans to have featured in the MSL. Tenywa featured for Uganda against Rwanda.
