OUTSPOKEN Gulu Municipality Member of Parliament (MP) Norbert Mao will take time off politics to compete in Saturday’s Marshals sprint at Garuga double track circuit.
Mao, who will become the first MP to compete in motor rallying, will drive William Blick’s Mitsubishi Evo2. William’s co-driver Hannington Kisooka will navigate the 34-year legislator.
“He can make a good rally driver. His navigator will brief him on the language in the cockpit at Garuga later this week,” said Mao’s brother Dusman Okee after handing in the MP’s entry.
Mao, who will take part as a guest driver, intends to get his own car in the near future.
“I am sure after enjoying the feeling in the cockpit, he will compete in more sprints,” Okee said.
The MP announced his interest in the sport in December last year during the prize-giving ceremony of the Champion of Champions sprint at Mambo Bado.
Fourteen drivers have so far registered for the race organised by Uganda Motorsport Marshals Association.
International Air Ambulance, Katumwa Sports Centre, Nsibambi Enterprises, Simkat, Fire Masters, Motorsport Promo (U) and Chipper’s Ice Cream are co-sponsors of the sprint.
