THE Lira district LC5 bye-elections opened on Wednesday with the nomination of candidates vying to fill the post, which fell vacant on the death of the LC5 chairman, Charles Odwee Arago, early this year.
Franco Ojur was nominated first as the sole candidate of the Uganda People’s Congress adhoc committee.
He was nominated by Christine Odwee, the late LC5’s widow, and seconded by David Owera, a prominent businessman in Lira town.
The former LC5 boss Lira district, James Obua Otoa, was nominated on Thursday and later Macpio Levi Okodi was also nominated.
The function was presided over by the Lira district returning officer, Silver Mugenyi. He was assisted by the district registrar, Denis Ebong, and his assistant, Caroline Onekalit.
Mugenyi said the nominees’ papers would be scrutinised for seven days, and warned them against ferrying supporters to and from sub-counties. Ends
