THE Ugandan embassy in Denmark is investigating a row between Amon Muwanga and the Swedish social service over custody of the former’s two daughters abducted in 1999 at Gothenburg, Sweden.

Muwanga, the founder of double football international based in Sweden, said Rebecca Mirembe and Stella Birungi were taken by the country’s social service workers while he was at work.

“I reported this case in 2000 to the permanent secretary Rafael Ochan who in turn reported to the Swedish embassy in Kampala.”

Muwanga says since that day, efforts to get back custody of his children have proved futile.

An official at the Uganda embassy in Denmark on 21 January 2003 wrote to the social welfare officer Bengt Sahlberg reminding the office about the unresolved matter.

Sahlberg, however, said “The social welfare have secrecy. Because of that, there is no possibility of informing you about your children.”
