PADER district council chairman Yakobo Komakech has said the district is the most ravaged by the Kony rebellion, Karimojong cattle raiders and hunger.”
“The Lord’s Resistance Army commanders chose the district as their camp. They keep on killing, abducting and displacing people,” he said.
Komakech was speaking last weekend at Kyadondo Road, Nakasero in Kampala, while receiving used clothes and shoes donated by the Movement Voice.
He said, “The Karimojong have on the other hand been raiding us since December last year, killing people, raiding their cattle and looting their food. People are not cultivating yet Kony and the Karimojong continue to collect food reserves from the granary,” he said.
The defence state minister, Ruth Nankabirwa, presided over the function. The Kitgum district council chairman, Nahaman Ojwe, also attended the ceremony.
“The biggest problem in Pader is food. There have been no grains from World Food Programme since last July and people are living on mangoes. Women try to move around to look for food, but they are often attacked and killed by the raiders,” he said.
Pader became a district in December 2000. Of its 326,000 population, 290,000 are displaced and living in 20 camps. Ends
