UGANDAN athletes will mark the World Athletics Day at Kyambogo tomorrow with yet another attempt at qualifying for the Abuja All Africa Games.
No Ugandan athlete has hit the October Abuja Games’ requirement partly because of Uganda Amateur Athletics Federation’s (UAAF) failure to fulfill its calendar.
The track and field body, currently under an interim committee, has failed to stage three of its trials because of financial constraints.
World junior cross-country bronze medallists James Kibet, Moses Kipsiro Isaac Kiprop, Martin Kiplimo are some of the big names expected at the trial that starts at 8.00am at the former Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo ground.
The 5000m and 10000m will be the day’s spotlight should the teenagers appear.
Kyambogo University’s Harry Larube will be the other person to watch in the four-hour meet sponsored by National Council of Sports. Larube, running on home territory, will enter the 800m and 1500 m race.
But the trial will miss World Cross-country silver medallist Boniface Kiprop and Grace Birungi. Kiprop is training in Kapchorwa.
Birungi, a 1999 All Africa Games 800m bronze medallist, said yesterday that she is yet to hit competition form. Ends
