THE Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Kabarole, Canon Ben Rullonga, has warned the residents, against selling their land or houses to immigrants, Frederick Nyakabwa.

The RDC was recently addressing Fort Portal municipal councillors. He told them that the law does not allow sale of land to foreigners.

He disclosed that 380 illegal immigrants from the Hema tribe of Bunia in the Democratic Republic of Congo, had illegally entered the district.

“Congolese Hema have illegally infiltrated the district and I have information that some of them have bought land or houses,” the RDC said, urging the local people to be cautious when dealing with immigrants.

The RDC said the immigrants were fleeing wrangles at home and that they had started coming to Kabarole last September. He said they first settled in Rwebisengo, Bundibugyo district, before crossing over to Kabarole. Registered immigrants in Kabarole are said to be 380 with 258 of them in Fort Portal municipality.
