ANGOLAN side Aviacao are taking full advantage of a chance SC Villa threw away in the African Champions League.
AS Aviacao, who overturned a 2-1 home defeat with a 2-0 away win to eject Villa in the first round, hammered Ghana’s Hearts of Oak 3-0 to virtually book their place into the last eight on Sunday.
Former Sporting Lisbon junior Rasca set the rout in motion after just two minutes. Jamba and substitute Kadima added two more.
Hearts of Oak, Champions League winners in 2000, look set for another early-round exit — their third in consecutive years.
Defending champions Zamalek of Egypt lost 1-0 in the first leg of their second-round tie against Simba in Dar-es-Salaam.
Emmanuel Gabriel’s goal early in the second half gave Tanzania’s Simba a slender lead to take to the return leg in two weeks’ time in Cairo.
The eight second-round winners all qualify for the league phase, where clubs earn $3.2 million in marketing and television revenue.
Rwandan sides Kiyovu Sport and APR all look set to book quarterfinal places in the other CAF competitions.
