THE Government is to increase supply of electricity to Karamoja region to facilitate the mining of lime, the state minister for energy, Daudi Migereko, has said.
Migereko, who was addressing residents of Walukuba-Masese division on Saturday, said deposits of lime, a raw material for the manufacture of cement, was found in the area.
“Once there is enough electric power, extraction of this mineral will start. This will boost the cement industry and create more job opportunities,” he said.
Migereko said Kampala, Jinja and Tororo districts would benefit from the urban power rehabilitation programme, which he said was in the offing.
He urged residents in the towns to maximise the use of electric power by initiating income-generating projects like maize milling.Ends
