SIR— In reference to one
of our main dailies yesterday
in a story “Four killed as bus hits landmine’ was run
on the LRA attacks in Pader
in which a landmine hit a bus unfortunately, four people died, others injured and a bus destroyed. Though the army authorities confirmed the story, what I do not understand is the impression the daily wants to give about the new army commander, Maj Gen Aronda Nyakairima.
First, the editors gave the story a front-page, followed by a mugshot of Maj-Gen Nyakairima smiling — implying that the case is minor, he is happy about the loss of lives or that he is not concerned about the LRA’s repeated killings.
The picture does not match the story because the LRA attacks are not celebrations where people are supposed to be happy!
I call upon editors to be objective in their publishing. Every individual has his own thinking and style of handling situations. Maj-Gen Nyakairima has his and he has just started his task. Time will tell.
