MAKERERE University has started the search for the first ever Chancellor who is not the Head of State with an announcement that the office carries with it no salary or regular emoluments.
The chairperson of the search committee, Dr. Colin Sentongo, told journalists yesterday that the office was ceremonial and the person they wanted should be of high integrity and sound financial status. The person will only be facilitated to come to the university for official duties.
The nominees must be Ugandan citizens with a minimum academic qualification of a Bachelors degree and aged between 55 and 75 years.
A total of 10 candidates will be short-listed for interviews of whom two will be recommended to the University Council for onward transmission to the President for the appointment of the Chancellor.
Sentongo appealed to the public to make nominations or interested parties to directly apply to the committee by 1:00pm on June 23, 2003.
He said the applications and nominations should be sent to: The Secretary to Council, Room 306 Makerere University Main Building, P. O. Box 7062 Kampala or by e-mail to: unisec@admin.mak.ac.ug
