SOCCER - Federation of Uganda Football Associations has appointed eight match commissioners to officiate local matches. FIFA retired referees David Katabira features prominently in the eight-man list that also has Ali Waiswa, Siraje Katono, John Matsiko, Wagambula, Ajab Waiswa, Yusuf Kamulegeya and Ben Ochama, according to a list released yesterday.

FESCAABA!
Boxing - FESCAABA championships that were due in Nairobi next month will now be held in December, a congress meeting in Nairobi confirmed Friday. Kenya, who hosted the first edition of the event last December, came to the rescue again after the organisers failed to get another bidder to stage it. Kenya won the inaugural title.

Alikisente 8th
CYCLING - LONDON-based cyclist Daniel Alikisente finished eighth in the Lincoln International grand prix cycling race last month in England. The Ugandan finished eighth in the sprints in the race that attracted cyclists from 140 countries. The cyclists participated in an event that covered 102 miles. He is now in Kampala preparing for another race between July 20-25.

STEPHEN Sentongo will command title-chasing Hot Pool’s stars when the Kampala clubs pool league resumes this weekend. The champions face bottom-placed Sanyu at home in Ntinda. Sanyu will later face Santa Maria.

Wako race
RACING - JINJA Racing Club has launched a fund-raising drive aimed at getting Sh40m to replace the Kyabazinga of Busoga Wako Mulooki’s car, which is broken down. The race will be held towards the end of June in Jinja. Racing Club officials say Kampala business guru Sudhir Ruparelia has agreed to contribute 90 per cent of the money while 10 per cent is expected from the drive.
