Margaret Kaana Akello who was born, raised and got married in an Internally displaced persons (IDP) camp, on Tuesday delivered her first baby in yet another IDP camp.
Akello endured labour pains as she walked to safety from the attacks by the LRA rebels at Obalanga IDP camp to deliver a healthy baby girl at Swaria Primary School, a temporary camp for the people displaced from Katakwi by LRA rebels.
“I delivered normally although I still feel a lot of pain and I also lack funds to provide for the baby,” Akello said.
She was among the over 7,000 people who fled to Soroti town following the attacks by the LRA rebels in Katakwi district.
Her camp at the school has over 2,000 IDPs who took over the school premises after municipal authorities temporarily closed the schools over the rebel incursions.
State minister for disaster preparedness Christine Amongin Aporu on Wednesday said relief items were procured for distribution. Akello said camp life had become part of their lives. Ends
