A MAN in Kalerwe surprised many people when he hired a boda-boda cycle to chase a taxi that had spilled water on him.
The unidentified man, dressed in a grey Kaunda suit, was soiled after a taxi hit a pothole, splashing dirty water over a radius of 10 metres. The incident happened on June 25 at Mambule stage, opposite the road leading to bwaise from Kalerwe.
The incident would have passed had the driver of the taxi not refused to immediately apologise for the event. “You think because we are walking on the roads now we don’t own cars? Do you know what I can do to you?†the soiled man queried.
But he was only met with insults from the driver, who, sparing a few minutes for a verbal exchange, told the man he was free to do anything.
Incensed, the pedestrian jumped on a boda-boda and started following the taxi to town. At one time the cycle caught up with the taxi in a jam and the man assured the taxi driver, that he would regret the day he was born. that he had forked out 10,000 to the Cyclist to ensure he kept track of the taxi.
This must have shaken the taxi man who sped off immediately. He was however let down by occasional disembarking passengers and traffic hold ups which enabled the cyclist often catch up with him and taunt him. The chase continued to the old taxi park police post, and UTODA offices where the victim logged a complaint.
By the time the New Vision left the scene, no action had been taken. The incident left, many people wondering why the affected man could ‘physically chase’ a taxi instead of noting the vehicle number plate and report later.Ends
