RDC probes UPE funds
BUSHENYI – The resident district commissioner, Bamusede Bwambale, recently threatened to take to court headteachers who have embezzled Universal Primary Education funds. He said he had caused an audit of the suspect schools and the report had implicated many headteachers in corruption. He declined to name the affected schools saying it could jeopardise investigations and the subsequent arrest of culprits.

School bus project on
KABALE – The new headmaster of Kigezi College Butobere, Adolf Kisembo, said a parents-teachers’ association recent meeting decided to maintain the school bus project . He said the school would pay a debt of sh117m in instalments over seven years. The Ministry of Education transferred Kisembo from Maddox High school. He said he would restore glory of the school.

Sh16.6b plan passed
KABAROLE – The district expects revenue of sh16.6b in year 2003/04, up from last year’s sh15.2b. The 2003/04 budget estimates, read by Irene Linda, a youth councillor, were passed by the council with some amendments.

Conditional grants from the central government will account for 74%, development partners 18% and local revenue at only 8%. Expenditure on capital development will be 37%, salaries 34%, sectors 21% and sub-county services, at 4% .
