Gowon set
KAMPALA — The High Court has given former chief of staff in the defunct Uganda Army, Maj. Gen. Yusuf Gowon, a special session to allow for the quick disposal of murder charges against him. The trial of Gowon, Sgt. Nasur Gille and Pte Mohammed Anyule, begins today. They are charged with the murder of Ntungamo sub-county chief Eliphazi Laki in September 1972 in Ibanda, Mbarara district.

‘Build more’
KAMPALA — The Government has been asked to set up more public libraries in all districts to promote the reading culture among citizens. This was contained in resolutions passed by participants at a three-day library workshop at the Makerere University Institute of Library and information Science recently. The Uganda Library Association chairman, Frederick Mukungu, read the resolutions.

School riots
KAMPALA – Midland S.S. students in Kawempe on Wednesday smashed window panes in a riotous protest against the decision of their headmaster to quit. Julius Kitumba reportedly attempted to leave the school alleging mistreatment by the bursar. The Police shot in the air to disperse the riot.
