MPS have opposed a proposal by Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) to set special examinations for people without ‘A’ level certificates.

The MPs of the committee on social services raised objections to the proposal by UNEB Secretary, Matthew Bukenya, saying people without ‘A’ Level must go back to study and earn the qualifications that way other than having them sit special examinations.

Bukenya aired the proposal while responding to questions raised by MPs yesterday during discussions on policy matters and the budget of UNEB, Sports sub-sector, Education Standards Agency, Education Service Commission and National Curriculum Development Centre.

MPs wanted to know what UNEB considered as ‘A’ Level equivalent.
Rainer Kafire (Kibuku) said it was embarrassing for MPs to be thrown out of Parliament on grounds of qualifications.
