MULAGO, spurred by former junior champion Stephen Kawuma, faced minimal resistance to win their fourth straight chess league match on Sunday.

Kawuma, Joseph Kizza and namesake Moses were a class above the lowly Mengo side in Mulago.

Mengo captain Peter Kiberu, a key actor in the team’s previous matches, this time succumbed to defeat.

Mulago, yet to win the title and enjoying their best form since the start of the season, lead the table with 14.5 points from four matches.

The leaders meet Luzira on Sunday in the first real challenge to their campaign.

Aviation maintained the pressure on Mulago by beating Jinja 3-1 in Entebbe. The team has 11 points from three wins and one draw.

Luzira overpowered Makerere University while Uganda Industrial Research Institute (UIRI) handed Stanbic a 4-0 defeat.
