A ROW has broken out between Mayuge town council mayor Sande Gabudyeri and the town clerk, David Kyeyago over failure to purchase President Museveni’s portrait.

Gabudyeri said Museveni’s portrait was among the items included in last financial year but had not been purchased.

“I need to hang the same (portrait) in my office but the town clerk has let me down. He has never given accountability for the funds since he started acting as town clerk two years ago,” Gabudyeri said.

Gabudyeri said this in a council session in Mayuge community hall.

Kyeyago said the friction between them was not due to his failure to provide Museveni’s portrait but has been on for some time.

“The mayor even goes ahead to block tax collectors sent out by my office to get graduated tax defaulters. He just approaches them and orders them to release those arrested for not paying,” Kyeyago said.

“Our problems are as a result of not showing respect for each other. It is time we both learnt to live with one an other and do only duties we are supposed to carry out,” he said.

Gabudyeri said his sources had unearthed a plot by the town clerk to disrupt the smooth running of the local government.
