THE Government is still awaiting the official communication from AES Corporation, an American company, which announced its withdrawal from the Bujagali power project recently, reports Yunusu Abbey.
Syda Bbumba, the energy and mineral development minister, said Government’s reaction to the AES pullout would depend on the contents of the company’s letter.
Daudi Migereko, the energy state minister, said yesterday the ministry expected AES to dispatch the withdrawal letter to Kampala anytime this week.
Bbumba said on telephone, “I would like to reaffirm and assure the public that the Government has never run short of options for the Bujagali project. So even if AES pulls out, we shall still go ahead with the project.â€
“Our reaction will depend on the nature of the correspondence we shall get from them,†Bumba said yesterday.
