Members of the Ggwanga Mujje Association in New York and New Jersey have contributed $12,000 (about sh24m) to improve clean water supply in the Buganda kingdom.

Members of the Ggwanga Mujje Association in New York and New Jersey have contributed $12,000 (about sh24m) to improve clean water supply in the Buganda kingdom.
On Wednesday, two of their leaders who have been on a visit to Uganda witnessed the launching of a sh 3.5m shallow well named Ssekawunde dug at Najeera in Kira sub-county, Wakiso district.
Wycliff Lule Musoke, the President of Ggwanga mujje and Kabaka’s representative in America and Mr. Kalema Musoke said they would continue to solicit for more funding for the developmental initiatives in the kingdom.
The water project is implemented through the Buganda Cultural and Development Foundation (BUCADEF).
The Chief Executive Officer of BUCADEF, Kyewalabye Male, said that more shallow wells and water tanks would be constructed in Kiringente in Mpigi district using the balance of the sh.24m contributed.
He said BUCADEF had constructed over 50 shallow wells in Buganda kingdom to alleviate the water problem faced by Kabaka’s subjects.
Launching the well the Mengo Minister of health Nelson Kawalya who represented the Katikiiro Joseph Ssemwogerere commended Ggwanga Mujje for the continued support. He counselled Ugandans to practice proper hygiene and immunise their children against killer diseases.
He appealed to residents to jealously guard and maintain the well. He said he well would benefit over 5,000 people who could not access the expensive piped water.
He thanked Desderio Kalema who donated the land on which the well has been built.
