Last Sunday at the Gold Reef City Hippodrome, Johannesburg, the hugely talented seven Idols contestants whisked fans away to the grand musical era of Big Band Swing with sterling performances of classic renditions by legendary artists as Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick Jr. and Natalie Cole.

Wafeeq Saffodien, Karen Ferreira, Nazneen Leeman, Kgomotso Tsatsi, Jacques Terre’Blanche, Anke Pietrangeli and Poseletso Sejosingoe who were accompanied by the 16-piece Johnny Cooper Band wowed viewers, audience members and the judges alike.

But Monday night was back to the usual nervous reality of the Results Show and the tense atmosphere in the M-Net studios. During the show screened on M-Net Open Time, presenters Colin Moss and Letoya Makhene read out the names of the three contestants with least votes as compared to other contestants. However, of the three, Kgomotso, Wafeeq and Karen, the latter had to leave.

Apparently, Karen’s rendition of Natalie Cole’s Straighten Up And Fly Right did not do enough to secure her enough votes from the public and the judges.

The remaining six finalists will perform at this Sunday’s live spectacular, to be broadcast on M-Net from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. The Idols will sing their own choice from songs released after the year 2000.
