The first private radio station in Karamoja region goes on air on Monday.

The General manager of Radio Management Services, Julie Bell, said The All Karamoja 94.7FM station would cover a radius of 150 kilometres.

She said the station would run programmes on disarmament, good governance, education and health, agriculture, civil society, gender and environmental issues.

“We have so far spent $90,000 (about sh180m) to buy the equipment. We expect to spend more to have the radio station fully on air,” she said.

Bell said the studios would be in the premises of the Italian Co-operation for Development.

She said the radio would be affiliated to the British Broadcasting Cooperation to relay popular programmes such as Focus on Africa.

The district officials said the station would help develop Karamoja.
