UGANDA U-19 cricket team left for South Africa yesterday ahead of the International Cricket Council (ICC) 2004 World Cup qualifiers scheduled for Namibia, Windhoek October 1-10.

14 players and three officials dressed in the national blazers were handed the national flag by the Chairman Uganda Cricket Association Latimer Mukasa at the National Council of Sports headquarters before departure.

Team manager Aloysius Nainhabo leads the delegation that also has team coach Andrew Meya and umpire Baker Elonge.
In the warm-ups, Uganda will have a full day of drills at Wits Education College tomorrow before taking on Zambia in their first international trial match.

Uganda will also play against Kenya and an Invitational XI at Wits College before leaving for Windhoek on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the team was hosted to a luncheon by Multi Choice Uganda at Sabrinas Pub on Thursday.

Multi Choice sales and marketing manager Richard Mwami called upon the youngsters to play like Ugandans with a lot of determination to excel and bring good results back home.
“Uganda is a promising cricket playing nation and we (Multi choice) are proud to associate with the local association in their endeavour to promote the sport,” Mwami said.

He called upon the youngsters to emulate their senior counterparts who stunned the world in 2001 during the ICC mini World Cup tournament in Canada. Uganda finished tenth out of 24 Nations.
