Jose Chameleon was on Sunday declared Uganda’s best artist in Munyonyo on Sunday. South African pop star Yvonne Chaka Chaka declaring the achievement said, “Give him support because he is your best artist.”

“Here’s my daughter. Speak to her,” Chaka Chaka told Chameleon, gesturing him to hold Kagiso Gabobsele, her daughter and manager.

Chameleon, wearing a white suit and spotting green tinted hair, did not waste any chances. He went on his knees and kissed Gabobsele’s hand. For this he earned a hug and a kiss on the mouth from Chaka Chaka.

She grabbed his hand, raised it and declared him “the best.”

Chaka Chaka had just declared Chameleon’s popular hit, Beyi Kali, Song of the Year at the inaugural Pearl of Africa Awards.

The function was presided over by the Nnabagereka, Sylvia Nagginda. Other dignitaries included Police chief Maj. Gen. Katumba Wamala, state minister for health Capt. Mike Mukula, ethics state minister Tim Lwanga, South African High Commissioner Vilakazi Bevumile and Kampala Mayor John Ssebaana.

Fans ran into a frenzy when Chameleon won sh5m from Sudhir and Jyotsna Ruparelia for the achievements. Chameleon’s parents, Mr and Mrs Gerald Mayanja, joined him to celebrate his victory upstage.

The Nnabagereka urged artistes to utilise their skill to promote social responsibility.
