The police in Rakai district have arrested a man who allegedly cut off the left arm of his wife.

Leo Bukenya, 48, a resident of Kyakudduse in Kasaali sub-county, was rescued by the police from a mob after he amputated Madalena Namugga, 32, over alleged adultery.

District CID officer Silver Bahane on Wednesday said Bukenya, a veteran soldier, sharpened his pang before attacking Namugga at her own home after a disagreement.

Namugga, now undergoing treatment at Masaka referral hospital, survived with several injuries on the head and back.

Namugga said she ran for her life, but fell and the man cut her several times as she yelled for help in vain.

“After falling, he cut me several times but I managed to get up and run again. He chased me until I entered one of the rooms in a local clinic, but on attempting to lock myself inside, I realised that one of my arms had been cut off,” Namugga recalled from her hospital bed.

It is alleged that Namugga had sent away Bukenya from her home for his harsh behaviour, which made him suspect the she had got another lover.

Residents attempted to attack the blood-stained Bukenya, but he swore to kill whoever dared him.

He allegedly leaked the blood off the pang like a wounded beast, which scared the residents off.

Police had to cork their guns to calm Bukenya, who later surrendered and was immediately whisked away from the mob.

At the police cell, Bukenya said his wife had deserted him for another man whom he refused to name.

He said the two had been meeting at Serona Hotel and this prompted her to deny him sex.

He said he had the right to his actions, saying he was overcome by anger.

The Police said they were surprised that Bukenya was defiant and non-repentant for his actions.
