SIX hundred teachers in Mukono have petitioned the Ministry of Education to cancel licenses of teachers charged with defiling their pupils, Nicholas Kajoba reports.
“We condemn teachers and parents who defile pupils and those who deprive children access to the Universal Primary Education programme,” the teachers said in the petition.
The petition was handed to resident district commissioner Charles Mubiru while the teachers were passing-out after a cadre course at Nakanyonyi playground, Mukono on Thursday.
They underwent a one-week training in political and military education.
The teachers appealed to the district to exempt them from paying the annual sh2000 development fee.
The teachers said UPE capitation grants should be regularly given to schools before each term begins.
“Local councils should work hand in hand with headteachers to mobilise parents in developing the schools. Even 25% of graduated tax paid by teachers in some schools should be re-imbursed by LCs to schools,” they said.
Mubiru hailed the teachers for supporting the Government programmes especially UPE.
He warned politicians against indulging in politics aimed at disuniting the district.
The district vice-chairman, Haji Jumba Masagazi, MPs and district officials attended.
