A gun was on Thursday dug out of Butebo MP Dr. Stephen Malinga’s home in Mbale as security foiled an attempt by his guard to sell it.

The guard, Joseph Oonyu, had reportedly buried the gun in Malinga’s compound from where it was recovered on Thursday.

Mbale regional internal security officer (RISO) Lt. Emmanuel Musinguzi said two guns were recovered when Oonyu attempted to sell one of them with 29 bullets. Oonyu had kept one of the guns at his home in Kachumbala, Kumi district.

Musinguzi said intelligence personnel trapped Oonyu when they posed as genuine buyers and gave him sh1m which he had demanded for one gun. He allegedly told them there was another for which he wanted the same amount of money.

He was, however, arrested and he led the security personnel to Malinga’s compound from where the second gun was hidden.

Malinga, who said he has registered guns, denied any knowledge about the illegal firearm.

He said even his other guard did not know.
