PARLIAMENT will finally receive the long awaited sh254b five-year sports policy strategy this week, reports Fred Kaweesi.

According to Aggrey Kibenge, public relations officer ministry of education and sports, the presentation is geared towards beating the October 31 deadline that was fixed by Cabinet three months ago.

“We would want to beat the deadline that was set by Cabinet. We also promised to meet that and every thing is in process to have it presented,” Kibenge said.

Government will spend sh254b in the countrywide implementation of the policy strategy with effect next year.

The policy has been designed to develop a cadre of high performing athletes, improve planning, management and administration.

This will, besides, involve outlining the facilities supposed to be provided by government, help regulate all associations and institutions running sports in the country.

Harley Reed consultants were procured to prepare the plan that was presented to the ministry in September.

The absence of a policy has been responsible for the meagre finances government allocates to sports each financial year.

Among the several positive outcomes if the policy is approved will be the designing of a sports department in the ministry headed by a commissioner for sports.
