THE Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) has established that the Peoples’ Redemption Army (PRA) does not enjoy support from the Rwanda Government.

Col. Noble Mayombo, the chief of military intelligence (right), yesterday said intelligence reports had not linked Rwanda to the PRA.

The rebels are allegedly headed by renegade UPDF Colonels Samson Mande, Anthony Kyakabale and Kizza Besigye.

Mayombo was responding to questions by Monitor lawyer Alex Rezida on whether Rwanda supported the rebels.

Mayombo was testifying in a case against three Monitor journalists accused of publishing false information prejudicial to national security before Buganda Road Court Chief Magistrate Frank Othembi.

“PRA was started by Besigye, Mande and Kyakabale to overthrow the Government by force of arms.
They are now based in eastern Congo but to the best of my knowledge no country supports them and our findings do not implicate Rwanda,” Mayombo said.
He said PRA had for the past year been trying to establish contacts with the LRA
