Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) has signed a memorandum of understanding with A.K Oils and Fats Uganda Limited leasing out 2,352 hectares of land at Kiryandongo.

The company under the Mukwano Group of Companies is to utilise plots 25 and 25A Block 5, in Kibanda county in Masindi district for commercial agriculture.

This is part of an operation in north and north western Uganda aimed at increasing edible oil seeds and animal feeds production and processing.

“The Uganda Peoples Defence Forces who have been occupying the land have agreed to vacate and have already written to us. We have leased out the land to A.K Oils and Fats Uganda Limited and a memorandum of understanding signed,” UIA director of lands Patrick Nyaika said in a statement issued on Thursday.

He said UIA has commissioned a land surveyor to open boundaries after which valuation of the land will take place.

“The work of the surveyor and Government valuer will enable the UIA establish the status of the current occupants,” he said.

Nyaika said UIA wants to ensure that out-growers are fully mobilised to participate and benefit from projects like this.
