THE Kabaka’s government has sh 179.3m as salary arrears for its workers, according to the estimates recently released by the Mengo finance minister, J. B. Walusimbi.

Walusimbi recently said the kingdom has 169 employees and sh40m is spent on their salaries per month.

He said owing to the limited funds, the kingdom terminated 63 workers from the finance department and from the Royal Treasury.

The Royal Treasury has the highest arrears amounting to sh87,030,000 followed by the Buganda Land Board with sh31,250,000.

Other departments are Katikkiro’s office with salary arrears of sh28,860,000 and the office of the permanent secretary with sh21,480,000.

Walusimbi said most of the funds go to the Royal Treasury, adding that the sector covers Kabaka’s tours and members of the royal family.
