Mungai scores 73 to win MTN event

JULIUS Mungai, playing off handicap 14, carded one-over par 73 to win the inaugural MTN golf open on 145 nett.

JULIUS Mungai, playing off handicap 14, carded one-over par 73 to win the inaugural MTN golf open on 145 nett.

The handicap 14 player was a stroke better than his day one score but claimed victory as his rivals faltered at the Kitante course.

In group A, Noorani Jr at 147 edged Daniel Kagwe and Karanja Kariuki who tied at 147.
Okello Okello won in group B while day one leader Ephraim Kubai settled for the group C award.

Overall winner: J. Mungai 145 nett; Group A(h/c 0-9) Noorani Jr 147 c/b D. Kagwe, K. Karanja; Group B (10-18) O. Okello 149, F. Tumuhairwe 153 c/b S. Mwesigwa; Group C (h/c 19-28) E. Kubai 149, L. Orlando 153 c/b J. Mugambi.

Monica Ntege carded a closing round of 74 nett to dispose day one leader Alice Kego in group A of the ladies event.

Ntege recovered from three shots behind Kego who did not fair well on day two.
