MAYUGE LC5 chairman Baker Ikoba, currently on remand for murder, has sacked his deputy and acting chairperson Loyce Sajjabi citing incompetence.

The sacking was contained in a recent letter allegedly written by Ikoba from his cell at Luzira Prison in Kampala.

Ikoba instructed Sajjabi to hand over office to the district speaker, Zakia Nzaireki, with immediate effect.

However, Sajjabi brushed off her ‘sacking’ news as political propaganda, saying was a ploy by some former members of her executive who were affected in a reshuffle she made recently.

Briefing the press at the district headquarters recently, Sajjabi said she suspected those affected in the reshuffle went to Luzira and asked Ikoba to sign her sacking letter, ignoring the fact that the powers of terminating her services lie in the hands of the Solicitor General.

“I am surprised to hear that someone under court custody can run an administration. Those behind this move are just wishing to confuse our district. The only authority that can remove me from this office is the Solicitor General in application of the Local government act,” Sajjabi said.

Jinja High court recently dismissed a case of forgery of academic papers that was filed against Ikoba.

However, he is still on remand at Luzira prison on murder charges.
