THE Police have confiscated two AK-47 machine guns from security guards attached to Agri-Securiko, a security company, at Butare Kyamuhunga in Igara, Bushenyi district, Abraham Muganzi reports.

The district Police commander, Anthony Oyuuku, said the guns were confiscated because private security companies are not supposed to use such powerful weapons.

“As we were carrying out our usual night patrols, we found the guards holding the guns. When we asked them where they got them from, they could not tell us,” he said.

Oyuuku said such guns were licensed to be used by the Police, army, Prisons and auxiliary forces like the local defence units.

He said when the Police contacted the Agri-Securiko manager, he could not explain how the guards got the weapons.

Oyuuku said investigations were ongoing.
