LADY Cranes coach David Mutaka has welcomed the Sevens Rugby World Cup schedule that will see his side play the first game against top-ranked New Zealand in Dubai on March 6.

“It’s good to start with tough opponents. Our team will now focus on New Zealand early enough. We don’t intend to lose our opening game. That means we will start on a high note. We shall already be battle-hardened by the time we face South Africa and Italy,” Mutaka warned.

The schedule, released by the International Rugby Board on Monday, will have Uganda and New Zealand take to the pitch first in pool D. Uganda will then face African champions South Africa three hours later and wind up the day with a night game against Italy.

The quarter-finals, semi-finals and final will be played the next day.
The plate and bowl event will also be played on the same day.

The Ugandan team sponsored by Ice Mark was named on Tuesday, the day New Zealand cut down its training squad to 17. The World Cup will have a 24-team men’s and a 16-team women’s competitions.
