THE Vice-President, Prof. Gilbert Bukenya, has warned local leaders against undermining Government programmes, saying this would hamper development.

Bukenya said unity in diversity could help propel development and lift Ugandan’s standards of living.

The vice-president issued the warning while launching the Wakiso district Prosperity-For-All (PFA) committee at the district headquarters recently.

Several LC3 chairpersons, councillors, civil servants and sub-county National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) coordinators attended the launch.

Bukenya informed the local leaders that the PFA programme is for all Ugandans irrespective of their political beliefs.

“The programme’s proper implementation will ensure a successful poverty fight at the household level and increase family incomes,” Bukenya said.

He called upon the leaders to adhere to the new NAADS guidelines under the PFA programme, where each parish must select six households as models for development through an all-inclusive and transparent process.

“I urge you to always reject substandard services or goods under this programme. If you feel the animal breeds are not good, please reject them,” he advised the leaders.

Under the PFA policy guidelines, the Government is advocating for daily, periodic and long-term incomes for each household to ensure food security.

The districts and sub-counties play a critical role in the implementation of the programme, with chief administrative officers and sub-county chiefs as the major accounting officers.
