ANTI-RETROVIRAL drugs, reagents and medical equipment worth millions of shillings were damaged in a storm that destroyed roofs in Atyak Health Centre IV in Amuru district on Sunday.

Twelve patients admitted to the health centre were stranded. Four people, who were injured by iron sheets and branches, were treated at the health centre.

The storm also blew away the roofs of classrooms in three primary schools, Olya, Pupwonya and Okidi, all in Atyak sub-county.

The hailstorms also destroyed crops.
It did not spare the roofs of the out-patient department, the drugs store, examination and injection rooms, laboratory and isolation department.

“There were eight patients admitted to the medical ward and four women to the maternity ward,” Galdino Okwonga, the nursing officer, said on Monday.
He said the roofs of five staff houses were also damaged.

The roofs at Atyak Police station, Atyak Catholic Church and the Pentecostal church were also blown away.

A senior presidential adviser, Richard Todwong, visited the health centre and appealed to the youths to help re-roof the wards.

Elders said they would perform rituals to establish the cause of the storm.
