ADERO Nyakisi underlined her status as the top woman road-runner in the country by destroying Kenyan opposition to win the chalons-en-champagne half marathon on Sunday.

The national half marathon champion, who is just coming off a fourth place finish in the Abuja International mountain running event, broke off from the lead pack to put on a one-woman show in the last 3km.

She beat her nearest competitor Sarah Kipchirchir by a minute in the 21km event. Her time of 1 hour 12 minutes and 20 seconds was however short of the 1:11.09 she clocked in France last year.

“I am very happy to win the race because these two strong Kenyans have beaten me in the past season. But now, it’s sweet revenge,” said the excited Nyakisi.

Another Ugandan Catherine Webombesa won the 10km subsidiary event in the same competition in 34 minutes and 44 seconds.
