KALANGALA district has got a sh4.7b landing site at Mwena fishing village. The landing site was funded by the African Development Bank and the Government.

Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries Minister, Hope Mwesigye who inspected it recently said the facility will help improve on the quality of fish and revenue generated.

She warned district authorities and the beach management unit officials against over charging the fishermen and misusing the facility.

“We have heard of people who move with receipts in their pockets. Please pay only the taxes that are legal,” she told a group of fishermen.

The over 10 acres landing site has fish handling shed, washing tables, box tables, ice maker, changing rooms, a 75,000 water tank that will generate 12,000 cubic liters of ice per hour.

With funding from African Development Bank, 20 landing sites are to be constructed along Lake Victoria. So far 12 are under construction while two have already been commissioned.
